The amygdala gets activated in response to real or perceived threats. Most human beings identify with some sort of self-image, social role, status, thought pattern or emotional state. When there is a threat to this arbitrary self-image, the amygdala is activated and human beings are unable to act in an effective and thoughtful manner.

We have a choice to loosen up our identification with completely arbitrary and random social roles and imagined status. We can create identification with our words; we have the power to declare that we are our declaration. In this case, our existence and self-image can be clearly defined and accurately created and recreated with our own words. Our ability to create or invent ourselves with the power of our own declaration is a uniquely liberating and empowering experience.

When we create a view of ourselves through conscious declaration, the prefrontal cortex is active, which enables us to access a wide range of brain resources for effective actions and results.

We can create a new view of ourselves and organizations through the power of declaration. Once new declarations are made and this new declaration is consistently honored, new actions and expanded results become possible.
